A blog is like a free billboard for your business!
Why? Because of content marketing. (Read the section below to learn what content marketing is, and for a successful example. )
When you select a topic for your blog make sure it’s related to your business.
Important! A blog must provide value to it’s readers. It’s not a space for just product promotion! Your product(s) should complement your content.
What’s Content Marketing?
Content marketing gives readers free valuable content on subjects that matter to them in exchange for their attention. It creates a sense of reciprocity with customers. As you give readers more free valuable content they arrive at a point where they want to reciprocate the benefit they received by seeking out your product. Making blogs a powerful FREE marketing tool for small businesses. Click here to tweet!
Example
In 2009, River Pools and Spas, a company that sells fiberglass pools, went from a significant decline in orders to at least 2 million in sales from inbound links generated from their blog alone. They went from having no internet presence, to one of the top online resources in their industry.
The growth of River Pools and Spas can largely be attributed to their blog because they created a free educational resource with valuable content. Their success suggests that it’s important to keep the content of your blog relevant to your business, and simultaneously write about topics that people want to read. Here’s an interesting New York Times article on their success.
